News Articles supporting the ride

I have been very fortunate to have the local paper support my ride across America. I will post the link to the article so you can see what the greater Yakima Valley got to learn about my ride for student scholarships. www.yakimaherald.com/stories/4440

Yesterday one of the local TV stations spent considerable time filming and interviewing me about the ride. The interview also included one of the Wapato high school teachers Gail Huibregtse. I suspect the piece will be shown sometime this weekend May 31 or June 1.

At this point we have sent out about 250 letters to friends and relatives asking for their support. This has been a new experience for me. I have sold thousands of raffle tickets for the local Lions Club but I have never asked people to support something that my name is attached to. I suspect I will get bolder as I get closer to the date I leave on the ride.
I have just completed signing up for the Seattle to Portland ride. This is a 204 mile ride that allows 9000 rides to make a trip in either one or two days between to large Northwest cities. I believe if I am able to complete this double century ride that my conditioning for the cross country ride is such that I will have the confidence to make the 3,300 mile ride across America. I will post the web link to the Seattle to Portland ride so if you are interested you can review the route and many other features of the race. www.cascade.org/EandR/stp/index.cfm

Getting ready for a bike ride across America takes lots of training time. However I have many other opportunities that keep me off the rode at times. The picture attached is me behind the wheel of the Wapato Lions club float. Our club takes this float out to about 10 local parades each year.

This year the community of Wapato is celebrating 100 years of existence. We will be celebrating this in many ways but the main celebration will come on Labor Day September 1,2008. We hope you can come celebrate with us.
