Local newspaper article

The local paper did a very nice job writing an article about my bike ride across America. (http://www.reviewindependent.com/) In addition there was a very nice article written in a parer called The Border Crossing which is a Lions Publication that covers British Columbia, North Idaho and Washington. (March/April issue 2008) The local school district has an article in the School District Newsletter that will go to everybody in the Wapato school district. Hopefully all of these articles will be helpful in reaching the goal of raising$100,000 for student scholarships. Asking people to support things has never been one of my favorite things to do but there is nothing more important to me than helping young people find their way into college. So if you or anybody you know wants to be part of this you can send in your Tax deductible contributions to: Kit Brow Treasure, Toppenish/Wapato Dollars for Scholars, 241 Joyce Place, Yakima WA, 98908

A busy weekend

Had a very busy weekend. Took out the Wapato Lions Club float to the Granger Cherry Festival parade, attended the Dollars for Scholars fundraising Golf Tournament, and went to church. I made three rides, a 33 mile ride Friday afternoon, a 18 mile Tandem ride with my wife, and a 48 mile ride Sunday afternoon to the Tri-Cities. I had two flat tires on the Sunday ride along with a head wind but still got in 48 miles in 4 hours. I am hoping this week will allow more opportunities to ride but there seems to be this thing that is called work that jumps in the way frequently.

Training ride 4-19-08

Made a 60 mile ride on Saturday. Started out in Selah at 38 degrees ended the ride at 42 degrees and snowing in Yakima. Stayed warm going out on Hwy 24 to mile post 24 since it was up hill. Coming back was very cool with a west wind coming off the fresh mountain snow. Had two great partners to share the ride with, one is training to ride the STP in one day, (204 miles) and the other training to ride Sea to Sea with the CRC raising funds for world hunger.

I want everybody to know that the purpose of this ride is to raise funds for students to attend college. This picture shows some of the students that will be making application for the Toppenish/Wapato Dollars for Scholars scholarships made available by funds raised by this ride.

Once agin the goal is $100,0000 or $30 a mile!

My Bike

Thought you ought to know who the guy is riding across America. We will be using this picture in the local paper and on the brochures we are producing to help raise funds.
Please note that I am still 240# on this picture and I plan on being 225# when I leave on September 6, 2008

Cycling 4 Scholarships: Leroy Pedals Coast to Coast

I have purchased my bike, a Trek Pilot 2.1. I have rode 3,000 miles to get in shape. I am believing this ride across Americas is very possible for a 63 year old to do. All that is necessary now is for you to support my ride by donating to the Toppenish/Wapato dollars for scholars fund. Our goal is to raise $100,000 or $30 dollars a mile.

You may donate by sending your contributions to: Kit Brown, Treasure, 241 Joyce PL., Yakima WA 98908
